Departmental Profile
About
The University Department of Home Science came into existence within Kolhan University since its inception from 13 August, 2009. Dr. K. Annapurna was the founder Head of this department. The Department offers Post Graduate Course and Ph.D. course in Home Science and imparts training in both theoretical and applied research in Home Science, which equips students to meet the academic challenges in tribal/rural/urban field studies. The main vision of the department is self-development and empowerment of socially and economically girls through modern, scientific and value-based education to enable them to lead a purposeful life filled with moral and spiritual values. Currently, two teaching faculties namely Dr. Sheeth Toppo and Dr. Ruby Rani are serving and contributing to this department.
Aims & Objectives
The aims of Home Science are to enhance personal, family and community well-being by applying scientific knowledge to daily life. It appreciates the role of Home Science in nation building and develops desirable attitudes towards integrated rural and urban development. Learning cultural and human values through Home Science is also emphasized.
Department Objectives
  • Develop professional skills in food, nutrition, textiles, housing and human development.
  • Understand and appreciate the role of interdisciplinary sciences in the development and well-being of individuals, families and communities.
  • Acquire professional and entrepreneurial skills for economic empowerment of self in particular and community in general.
  • Understand science and technology that enhance the quality of life of people.
  • Bring science laboratory to the people.
Significant Achievements
The Department has organized a One Day National Seminar on the topic “COVID-19 and Mental Health of Children and Adolescents.”
