The Department offers Post Graduate and Ph.D. Programmes in Anthropology and imparts training in both theoretical and applied research in Anthropology and Tribal Studies. This equips students to meet academic challenges in tribal, rural, and urban field studies. Apart from studying ethnographic diversity, the department is oriented towards the application of anthropological knowledge for a better understanding of tribal socio-cultural problems and developmental issues. In the future, the department plans to develop a Biological Anthropology and Prehistoric Archaeology Practical Laboratory along with a small museum as a teaching aid for students.
