The University Department of Zoology, Kolhan University was established in 2011 in the core of the Singhbhum district of Jharkhand to facilitate quality education for the young and bright youth of this rural region. Since its inception, the Department has been offering M.Sc. and Ph.D. programmes to students. Zoology as a discipline provides a deep understanding of the structure, behaviour, and evolution of animals through molecular and systems biology approaches. The subject has wide applications in environmental studies, industry, pharmacology, forensic science, andclinical sciences. In recent years, the study of Zoology has also generated global interest among students, researchers, and industry professionals. The Department periodically revises and restructures its syllabus to enable students to develop out-of-the-box thinking and technical skills required to excel in today’s multi-faceted scientific environment. It has adopted a blended teaching-learning approach, incorporating innovative pedagogies such as peer review, group discussions, book reviews, paper presentations, assignments, and e-posters. Field-based research projects further enhance experiential learning.

The Department has two classrooms and two research laboratories for teaching, learning, and practical courses. Faculty members and research scholars are actively engaged in research activities and regularly publish research articles and patents.
