The University Department of Geography was established in 2009. The department has three permanent faculty members: Dr. Sheo Nandan Thakur (Head and In-Charge), Dr. Sunita Kumari, and Mr. Kanchan Kachhap. Ms. Priya Gupta, University Topper in Geography (2022–24), is currently working as a Teaching Assistant.The department has its own library and reading room, along with ICT-based classrooms and surveying instruments, in addition to access to the central university library.

The department places special emphasis on providing education that is true, inclusive, tolerant, moral, social, and gender-sensitive, in addition to imparting core teaching and learning in the syllabus.

Ph.D. research, socio-economic surveys, dissertations, educational tours, and outreach programmes are regularly conducted by the department.
